October 30 - November 7, 2004
Opening Reception: November 5, 2004 "First Friday"

For those who missed the opportunity to purchase a Castelli watercolor at last May’s one-man show and for seasoned collectors who are eager to see the latest work from his studio, the Carla Massoni Gallery announces a special one-week exhibition to celebrate the unveiling of Castelli’s new Iris print and to offer a selection of watercolor paintings completed this summer.

Flight Risk / Island Bird (131/4” x 25”, $600) is the second in what will be a series of limited edition Iris prints produced by Mr. Castelli. The original painting was recently accepted into the 59th Annual Exhibition of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Only 50 copies of this exceptional Iris print will be produced. Also available are signed Iris prints of Making the Gulls Weep / Island Bird (22” x 30”, $725), originally used in J. Russell Jinishian’s book Bound for Blue Water. To view both prints and a selection of the new work available, please go to or Just outside our doorway at the bottom of High Street six incredible ships - the Pride of Baltimore, the H. Kalmar Nyckel, the Lady Maryland, the Elsworth and the Mildred Belle will be moored with our own Schooner Sultana for a weekend of activities. As our part of the celebration of the Sultana Downrigging Weekend ten large scale Castelli watercolor paintings inspired by the Schooner Sultana will be on exhibit in the Gallery. Visit for additional details about the festivities.

This is the perfect time to purchase a holiday gift for that lucky person on your list. The work completed since Mr. Castelli’s May 2004 solo show reflects his recent trip to England and as well as his traditional subjects, workboats, watermen and log canoes and all will be available for purchase. Our wonderful framers - The Finishing Touch - will offer a special discount on Mr. Castelli’s paintings to our customers but, please remember all holiday orders must be received in the store by December 10, 2004.

Back by popular demand are Denny Hampton’s Boats of the Chesapeake. These exquisite small-scaled replicas emulate their inspirations down to the smallest of details using in most cases the actual materials on the original boats.

Join us for an Open House on Saturday, October 30th and plan to stop by for wine and cheese on First Friday, November 5th when Marc Castelli and Denny Hampton will be in the Gallery from 5-8 pm. Click here for more images
