Personal Perspective featuring work by painter Marcy Dunn Ramsey and photographer Michael Kahn opens at the Carla Massoni Gallery in Chestertown, Maryland on Saturday, April 14, 2007. The Gallery will host an Open House from 10 am to 5 pm. There will be an Artists’ Talk at 2 pm and a wine & cheese reception from 2 – 5 pm. All are open to the public and free of charge.
Ramsey and Kahn, both long time exhibitors with the Gallery, are presenting new bodies of work. Marcy Dunn Ramsey has used the Chester River as her inspiration for over twenty years. Her oil on canvas landscapes are much sought after by collectors of both representational and abstract work. You always know you are viewing water, earth, and light, but Ramsey’s unique perspective takes the viewer to new visual territory. Ramsey will exhibit eighteen large canvases and a series of small gouache studies. The immediacy of the studies captures Ramsey’s initial response to her subject while the larger canvases act as personal meditations where artist and subject become one.
Michael Kahn has been pursuing his craft for over thirty years. His sepia toned photographs of sailing vessels, sea and landscapes are instantly recognizable throughout the world. Kahn, like Ramsey, also hovers on the edge of abstraction in many of his traditional photographs, particularly in work featuring sail mass and rigging. Periodically, Kahn explores subjects diverging from his well-known oeuvre requiring the use of different production techniques. The digital color prints he is exhibiting this month invite the viewer to experience aspects of the Chesapeake’s vast storehouse of visual imagery from Kahn’s unique perspective. Kahn will also show his traditional work produced in the last year and based on his travels from Maine to the Carolinas.
Private appointments may be scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays. Additional work by Michael Kahn will also be exhibited in the ART ANNEX, a division of the Carla Massoni Gallery, 112 Cross Street, Chestertown, MD.
